Russian women’s tennis team takes silver in team tournament

The Russian women scored second place in the tennis team tournament at the Universiade in Kazan.

The Russian women scored a total of 80 points, coming in second behind Japan (170), with the Americans taking third place (70), R-Sport reports. The Russian duo of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Elena Vesnina won the gold in the women’s doubles. Japan’s Sachie Ishizu won the gold in singles after she bested America’s Sabrina Santamaria in the final. Japan also took the bronze in the women’s singles with Hiroko Kuwata. The Russian men’s tennis team took third in the team tournament thanks to the silver of Konstantin Kravchuk and Viktor Baluda in the doubles, as well as Kravchuk’s bronze in the singles. On the men’s side, the team tournament gold went to South Korea with Chinese Taipei taking silver.
