At the final game of the tennis tournament, the Russian duo bested the pair of Shota Tagawa and Hiroko Kuwata from Japan in three sets with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 12-10.

“We had to grit our teeth at the tie-break. But even with a score of 2-4 I told Andrey, ‘Believe my experience, we’re gonna win this. I can see it, I can feel it and we just need to make a push somewhere, like our opponents are pushing now’,” Vesnina told R-Sport.

“With a score of 7-9, I ran for the ball without giving advance notice, even though we usually discuss who will get what in this kind of situation,” she explained one moment of the match. Earlier, Vesnina, together with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, won the gold in the women’s doubles.
