In the decisive meet the Russians defeated the Japanese pair of Shota Tagawa and Hiroko Kuwata with a score of 6:4, 3:6 and 12:10 in three sets.

“There is much that depends on him as a man: his serves, his interceptions at the net.  On my part, I can only advise or suggest.  But no one is trying to play boss in our pair,” Vesnina said to the R-Sport agency.  “The Japanese were on the roll, and the girl was in no way inferior to the guy – her first serve must have been 100% quality,” the athlete commented on the gameplay.  “She was not strong, but very stable, while the guy (Tagawa) caused a great deal of trouble by his effective movements at the net.  He pressed us throughout the match, his tennis of a rather high caliber.”

Earlier Vesnina together with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova won the Universiade gold in the doubles competition.
