The Krasnoyarsk resident Melnikov in a decisive fight in the weight category 96 kg defeated the Armenian Artur Aleksanyan in less than three minutes 8:0 reported R-Sport .

"I would like to congratulate all the guys that won today, the team coaches and all of our fans," said Mamiashvili. "All of the guys did a great job, but I would like to highlight Nikita Melnikov. Because in the finals he met the best wrestler in the world today, silver medallist at the Olympic Games and world champion, two-time European champion. And he didn't simply defeat him, but he won convincingly and quickly. Aleksanyan is still the best in the world - but now after Nikita." The head of the Russian Wrestling Federation stressed that "The victory is very important for all of us and for Nikita himself. Today, he conquered himself, because he has long been ready to meet great challenges. He did that today. And, believe me, Nikita will certainly be involved in the trials for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro." Head coach of the Russian delegation Gogi Koguashvili added: "Our entire team is very grateful for the amazing support from all the fans. We felt their warmth as soon as we arrived - this didn't feel like the Universiade, but more like the Olympic Games. Thank you all for the wonderful atmosphere that has enveloped us since our very first day in Kazan."
