Water polo. Preview of competition day

On July 17, the final matches in the water polo competitions will take place at the 27th World University Summer Games.

The Russian and Hungarian national teams will face each other in the final match for the gold of the Universiade. In the semifinals, Russia defeated Serbia with a score of 12:11, and Hungary beat Italy with a score of 11:9. The bronze winner will be determined in the Italy vs. Serbia game.

The final games will start at 11:15 in the Burevestnik Swimming Pool.

The women’s water polo medalilsts of the 2013 Summer Universiade were determined in the matches which took place on July 16.

The competition day started off with men’s teams. In the game for seventh place Australia defeated Brazail (8:7). The fifth place went to the USA national team, which achieved victory over Japan (8:7).

In the women’s half of the tournament, the French team beat the USA (9:8) and took seventh place.  Australia, thanks to its victory over Japan (12:6), placed fifth.

The Italian national team won bronze by defeating their Canadian opponents (6:5).  Gold medals and the champions’ title went to the Russian water polo players, who overcame Hungary with a score of 18:11.
