Karasev: Stands gave second wind to Russian basketball players in final event

Sergey Karasev, the basketball team, forward stated that stands who supported their fantastically gave the second wind to Russia basketball national team in the Universiade final.

Russia's basketball national team won the Universiade final match beating the team of Australia. The former team got gold medals of the Universiade. The play was held in Kazan on Tuesday. It came to the end with a score 81:74 to the team of Vasily Karasev.

"Finally we got gold medals, for the first time in the Universiade history. I would like to thank our fans who supported us. They helped us a lot in the second part and they gave us the second wind. This is our joint gold medal," says Karasev to R-Sport journalists. Basketball player mentioned that it was important to play their own game in the final. It was important to keep everything uninjured and be safe and sound. "We understood that we would play our own game, from the defence. We would be as a real fist otherwise there were no chances to win," he informed. "The last two matches, quarterfinal and semifinal, Australia played hardly, losing 15-17 points during the match. We knew it and we were ready for it.'

Karasev was recognised as the best basketball player of the Universiade tournament. The player himself said he managed to perform the role of leader. "Responsibility was pressing a little. And I knew it: I was very important. Being a forward demands more aggression from the competitors. They will suppress me and they will try to do everything I lose my control. But I coped with this role. We won the game with our team," he added. Karasev scored the three-point goal when the third quarter signal rang. "Two seconds left. I threw the ball and I scored the goal. There was the second wind. We caught the wave. This throw helped really a lot," he added.
