27th Summer Universiade in Kazan,

July 6-17 2013

International Sport Movies & TV Festival may be held in Kazan

A documentary about the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan, 'U are the World', is nominated for the main prize of the Sport Movies & TV 2014 – 32nd International FICTS Festival that is held these days, December 3-8, in Milan (ITA). Screening of the film took place the night before and results of the Festival will be announced during the closing ceremony tomorrow.

The documentary premiered in February 2014. The film tells the story of how student-athletes - participants of the 2013 World University Summer Games - are getting ready to travel to Russia for the first time and are learning about Kazan. The documentary shows how the host city has transformed through the build-up to the Universiade. Commentaries on this progress are provided by the OC chief executives - First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and OC Chair Igor Shuvalov, Russia's Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko, and Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov. The documentary also has another message: the Universiade was made possible thanks to hard work of thousands of people involved that's why the film features interviews with builders, drivers and student volunteers - all those whose contribution to each separate area of responsibility can hardly be overemphasised.

According to the Organising Committee, a total of 948 entries from 55 countries have been submitted to compete at the International Sport Movies & TV Festival. 150 entries have been shortlisted and each of them has been nominated in one of the following competitive sections: Olympic Games, Documentary;TV Shows – New Technologies; Sport & Society; Movies; Sport Adverts; Movies & TV Football.

The International Sport Movies & TV Festival is organised by FICTS (Fédération Internationale Cinéma Télévision Sportifs) that includes 113 countries and is officially recognised by IOC (International Olympic Committee).
