Tourism organisation during Universiade discussed at Main Media Centre

A press conference dedicated to the organisation of the tourism process during the World University Games took place on 4 July, 2013, at the Main Media Centre of the 27th Summer Universiade.


The event speakers of the press conference were Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan, Sergey Ivanov, and Director General of the Tourist Information Centre, Natalya Abramovich. The meeting focused on the regulations for tourists’ arrivals in Kazan during the 2013 Summer Universiade, some issues regarding guided tours programmes, hotels’ preparations for guests and a number of other topics.

Sergey Ivanov said it is a pleasure for him to participate in the first press conference organised at the Main Media Centre which was opened only yesterday. In his statement he mentioned: "Certainly, for us, as the authority responsible for tourism development in Kazan and the Republic of Tatarstan, it is extremely important to draw attention not only to the sports component of the Universiade, but also the touristic element. People arriving in the capital of our republic as guests and tourists must have the opportunity not only to watch sport competitions, but also to enjoy the Games cultural projects and the highlights of the city. The effort to make the Universiade a touristic product has started since the end of 2011."

During the press conference Sergey Ivanov also mentioned the information support for tourists at the Universiade. Thereby, two offices of the Tourist Information Centre are operational today in Kazan. They are located on Kremlevskaya Street and in Tukaya Square, inside theTatarstan Hotel. According to the Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan, in these offices guests will be able to order trips which are organised on regular basis.


After the renovation of the Kazan International Airport there was also opened a tourist and information booth where it is possible to receive all necessary information. The staff, working 18 hours per day, is ready to answer any questions of the guests. During the night, visitors can use information flyers.

Sergey Ivanov spoke about how serious was the preparation carried out in Kazan's hotels for guests: "We carried out a cycle of trainings for the hotel personnel under the general name 'Reboot'. Our main task was to increase the standard of services in hotels. All guests and tourists have to feel not only the quality of the services, but also our eastern hospitality."

Besides that, about 10,000 employees of Tatarstan’s ministries passed English courses for the 27th World University Summer Games. Similar activities were also performed by employees of museums, theatres, catering and trade companies.

"During the training they learned basic skills of communication in English and received six specially developed conversation books containing the most widespread and necessary phrases. Thus, according to our forecasts, the language barrier in communication with foreign guests will be eliminated," Sergey Ivanov stated.


Information support for tourists at the Universiade is not offered only in Kazan, but also in other touristic places outside the city – in Bolgar and on the Sviyazhsk island town. In there, the information is set up in three languages: Russian, English and Tatar, in order to help tourists to familiarise thesemselves with the place. In few words, we tried not only to create comfortable conditions for Kazan guests, but also to explain them in detail how to get to the Universiade and how to avoid missing significant cultural events. "Everything is done so that the guests ‘stay in the city should be unforgettable," concluded the Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan.

In her speech, Natalya Abramovich stated: «During the Universiade all hotels in the city are provided with maps for tourists. Besides that, hotels also have travel guides. By means of these materials tourists receive information on sights of the capital, learn about all cultural events of the city, and they are also able to familiarise themselves with the schedule of competitions within the Games».

During the press conference, Natalya Abramovich especially focused on the issue regarding guided tour services for guests during the 27th Summer Universiade. According to the Director General of the Tourist Information Centre, free trip services will be provided to 17,600 accredited representatives. This number includes officials, athletes, judges, trainers, doctors, and marketing teams. During all World University Games, free guided tours will be organised across Kazan, Sviyazhsk, and Bolgar. Information stands are established in six tourist places where it is possible to register for trips and to receive answers to different questions. Similar stands are placed within the Main Press Centre, the Main International Centre, the River Port, and also in Korston Mall and Hotel, Tatarstan and Riviera Hotels. Paid guided tours will be organized for other groups. Registration for these trips is available in the centre located at the Tatarstan Hotel.

"The trip calendar is rich and various. We will provide tours to visit the Raifa Bogoroditsky Monastery, an evening guided tour, called 'Lights of Kazan' and many other tours. During our work, we sought to take into account all possible requests and prepared all necessary services," Natalya Abramovich summarised.

Tourism resources of the Republic of Tatarstan are entirely prepared. The flow of guests during the 27th Summer Universiade will increase considerably, approximately from 3 to 5 times in comparison with July indicators of last year.
