Belt wrestlers wrap up their competition

The belt wrestling tournament at the Summer Universiade ended on July 9. The matches were held at the Ak Bars Wrestling Palace.


July 9 marked the end of belt wrestling competition at the 2013 Summer Universiade. Matches were held at the Ak Bars Wrestling Palace. There were 130 athletes from 20 countries in the competition. On July 8, the second day of the tournament, women were awarded sets of medals.

Russia's Serafima Safonov won gold in the 58 kg weight class, defeating Japan's Katsuki Sakagami. Burul Alykulova of Kyrgyzstan and Rushana Nuzjavova of Turkmenistan shared the bronze. In the 52 kg weight class, the winner was Gulbadam Babamuratova of Turkmenistan, who bested Azerbaijan's Ulviyya Kerimova in the final. Zamira Akhmedov of Uzbekistan and Gulnur Erbolova of Uzbekistan each won bronze.
Alice Schlesinger, who was representing Israel, was the champion in the 66 kg category, winning the final over Russian Anna Emelianenko. The Bronze medalists were Enkhchimeg Sodnomsuren of Mongolia and Gulnara Haitbaeva of Turkmenistan.
Japan's Rino Abe won gold in the 76 kg class, beating Taisia Kireeva of Russia. Bronze medals went to Ukrainian Liudmyla Nikitina and Gulandom Qaroboeva of Tajikistan.
Russian Tatiana Zyryanova took first in the over-76 kg weight class. The silver was earned by Mongolia's Munkhtu Dashnim, and Nagizel Sarbashova of Kyrgyzstan took the bronze.
On the final day of the competition, there were fights in the classic style (Koresh) in seven weight classes (60 kg, 70 kg, 80 kg, 90 kg and 100 kg, and over 100 open category). At 60 kg, Russia's Nafis Minnebaev needed a few dozen seconds to defeat his opponent from Moldova, Maxim Mamulata. The bronze went to Nurzhan Ryskul Uulu of Kyrgyzstan and Otgot-Erdene Mubayaru of Mongolia.
At 70 kg, Ildar Giniyatullin of Russia prevailed over his opponent in the gold-medal match, Turkmenistan's Agamurat Arazsahedov. Kostiatyn Tarasov of Ukraine and Mihail Cosnicean of Moldova captured bronze medals.
Russian Ilnar Galiev took first place in the 80 kg class. In the final, he defeated Uzbek Zaylobiddy Artikov. Janis Rarihs of Latvia and Dovran Yaylimov of Turkmenistan won bronze.
In the 90 kg weight class, another Russian, Ilnur Murtazin, earned the gold with a convincing victory in the finals over Pavel Pradukha of Belarus. The bronze awent to Ukrainian Leonid Ryabchun and Duulatbeku Saparbek Uulu of Kyrgyzstan.
In the final at 100 kg, the strongest proved to be yet another Russian, Renat Akhmetshin. His opponent was Kazakhstan's Eskarkhan Oksanov. This was the only match in which a Russian wrestler's opponent scored points for a throw. Bronze went to Kadyr Kelsinbekov of Kyrgyzstan and Anatolie Moldovan of Moldova.
In the 100-plus kg weight class, nobody was the equal of Russia's Sergey Pavlik, who defeated Belarusian Aliaksei Sobal in the final. The bronze at the heaviest weight went to Israel's Gregory Rudelson and Sugarjargal Boldpurev, representing Mongolia.
The tournament wrapped up with the medal round in the absolute weight class, and it was a clean sweep for Russia. Pavlik won the gold, Murtazin the silver, and Galiev and Akhmetshin a bronze medal each.
