Ukrainian boxer Berinchik states that he physically was not ready for the Universiade

Bronze medallist of the Universiade in Kazan, Ukrainian Denis Berinchik, has stated that he placed third in the boxing tournament through his being physically insufficiently ready for the Games.

In the semifinal, Berinchik was defeated by Russian athlete Radzhab Butaev, who subsequently won the competitions, informs R-Sport.

"I focused not on winning the medal but on each fight so I probably deserve what I got in the end. In the semifinal, I neither won nor lost. Perhaps, I just wasn't ready. In the physical sense, I mean," said Berinchik. "I didn't have proper stages of training because of the participation in the World Series of Boxing. Hence, at the Universiade I worked based on the old baggage." The London Olympics silver medallist added that "after the silver of the world championship and the Olympics, bronze is a totally different medal". The Ukrainian boxer described Butaev as "talented". "But I think that there is no talent without hard work, and you can't predict what is going to happen next," he said.

Regarding his plans for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the boxer said the following: "Yes, I am planning to go, but I also need to go to the Licensed World Championship, which won't be easy."
