Tinchurin theatre presents love story of Yusuf and Zulaikha

The Tatar National Drama and Comedy Theatre named after K.Tinchurin has presented the play Yusuf and Zulaikha as part of the Cultural Universiade.

The play Yusuf and Zulaikha, staged by Theatre Director, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, Honoured Art Worker of the Republic of Tatarstan Rashid Zagidullin, is undoubtedly the theatre's vibrant event of the season. The brilliant performance of the actors as well as the philosophy and depth of the drama merge into a full-scale picture.

The theatre director has combined the mythical nature of the famous poem Qíssai Yosıf (Tale of Yusuf) by Qol Ghali and the prose Yusuf and Zulaikha by Nurmukhammet Khisamov and at the same time preserved the psychological accuracy in the interpretation of the protagonists' relationship. Thus, in its stylistics, the play resembles an opera which has been transferred to the plane of a drama theatre.

Yusuf and Zulaikha is literary and folklore monument of the peoples of the East based on the Bible and the Quran legend of Joseph. This story has always been relevant since it emerged: it is about how a kind, unselfish person was rewarded for his sufferings and sacrifices for the sake of justice and happiness of people. And, of course, it is a story about love which gives you strength to live in any historical period.

The role of Yusuf is played by leading young actor of the theatre Ilfak Khafizov, and Zulaikha is played by Rezeda Salyakhova. Scenographer of the play is Roman Morov, choreographer – Maria Lazukova, composer – Rezeda Akhiyarova. The crowd scenes are performed by students of the Actors' Department at Kazan Theatre School.
