ОАО Aeroflot Russian Airlines is the Official Partner and Official Airline of the 27th Summer Universiade Kazan 2013. Under the partnership agreement signed with the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, the air carrier is obliged to transport athletes, judges, organisers and other client groups of this global sporting event. Aeroflot began serving regular flights between Moscow and Kazan in 2010. Modern Airbus A320-family and new Sukhoi SuperJet-100 airliners carry passengers three times a day. Russia’s largest air carrier plans to increase the number of flights between these two cities in the lead up to the 27th Summer Universiade. Before Aeroflot was announced as the Kazan 2013 Official Airline, the company was actively involved in promoting the World University Games, playing video clips about the forthcoming major sporting event in Kazan on board its aircraft.
Aeroflot is Russia's leading air carrier. The airline, which is one of Russia’s most recognised brands, will celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2013. Presently the company implements the strategy which positions Aeroflot Group as one of the key players at the global market and puts it among the world’s top 20 air carriers by 2025.
Aeroflot dominates the domestic passenger market in terms of national and international flights. It is expected that in the year 2012 the Russian national airline will carry up to 18 mln passengers. In winter 2012-2013 season, Aeroflot plans to fly to 51 countries (118 destinations, including 31 destinations in Russia). Based in Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport, Aeroflot has four branches: in St Petersburg, Kaliningrad and Vladivostok. The company is a member of SkyTeam, a global airline alliance with an access to a route network of 1,000 destinations in 187 countries. Aeroflot has one of Europe’s youngest air fleets.
Aeroflot meets high international flight safety standards. The national carrier was the first Russian airline to be included in IATA’s Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) Registry. In 2011 Aeroflot successfully passed its fourth regular IOSA compliance audit. The company also obtained the IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations (ISAGO) certification.
Aeroflot traditionally supports sports, including the Olympic Movement. Russia’s largest airline was awarded General Partner status for the 2014 Games in the Sochi 2014 Passenger Air Transportation Services category. Aeroflot has also become a general partner of Russian Premier League side CSKA Moscow.
