Second Stop of Russian Beach Volleyball Championship

The year 2011 is the debut year for the so-called EEVZA Tour – Russian Open Beach Volleyball Championship. Current members of the Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association (EEVZA) are the national federations of eight Eastern European countries: Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Azerbaijan, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus. In this way, the open stages of the 2011 Russian Beach Volleyball Championship will bring together both Russian and foreign teams. This format was tested at the Open Cup of Russia last year, when the Latvian duo Plavins-Samoilovs claimed gold. Apart from the increased prize money, the players starring in this competition will be receiving national ranking points even though they are not necessarily playing in their home country, as well as a certain number of international points at the CEV and FIVB rank lists. This change can be introduced in the EEVZA Tour final (Cup of Russia), if this format approves itself. In this case the CEV Administrative Council is to give a rating category to the EEVZA Tour. Appearance in the tournament is an excellent chance for young volleyball players to earn international points that are to contribute to their rankings in Satellites, Challengers, and even the Swatch FIVB Beach Volley World Tour.

The tour will include five stops, starting in Anapa, Russia, next May 6-9 to continue in Illichivsk, Ukraine, where the second tournament will run through June 15-18. The competition will then resume in Pärnu, Estonia (July 2-3), before the last two stops in Zelenogradsk, Kaliningrad Region (July 28-31) and Jurmala, Latvia (August 12-14). The finals will be staged in Anapa, at the premises of the Volley Grad Complex, next September 8-11. Apart from that, Russia is to host two closed stages which will be held within the 2011 national tour in Kazan (June 10-13) and Obninsk (June 23-26). The final of the Russian Championship is scheduled to take place in Anapa on August 31-September 4.
